IRS to Develop ID Theft Response
According to Federal Computer Week, IRS Commissioner Douglas Shulman has promised to develop IRS procedures to assist taxpayers who are victims of identity theft. IRS staff will be trained as early as this fall. The procedures will be aimed at assisting victims to clear their tax records of items that are the result of identity theft and to develop a mechanism whereby a victim may place an alert on his or her IRS records to notify IRS employees that the taxpayer has been a victim of identity theft.
